After and during nearly every live stream, I get asked about my setup, my editor, my browser, and various other tidbits that are mostly unrelated to the thing we're building. I figured it'd be worth the time to take a session where I go through all those things so that I have somewhere to point other people that ask, and that's what this video is! I also took a bunch of Q&A over the course of the stream about Rust development, Linux, and programming in general, so hopefully there'll be some interesting tidbits in there for everyone :) All my config files can be found here: https://github.com/jonhoo/configs Some useful quick links: - Window manager (xmonad): 00:02:35 - System tray (polybar): 00:04:03 - Terminal (alacritty): 00:04:55 - Shell (fish + tmux): 00:07:10 - Editor (neovim): 00:12:15 - Keyboard (Filco Ninja Majestouch-2): 00:26:18 - File listing (exa): 00:30:44 - Email (mutt + buzz): 00:31:56 - Rust editor integration (rls): 00:36:22 - Cargo tools: 00:38:35 - OS (Arch): 00:46:53 - More cargo tools: 00:49:28 - Using and learning tokio: 00:53:01 - More cargo tools: 01:01:34 - Contrast futures w/ js callbacks 01:02:50 - More cargo tools: 01:03:45 - then vs and_then in futures: 01:08:31 - Browser (Firefox): 01:10:21 - Terminal greeting prompt: 01:15:01 - autojump: 01:17:17 - xmonad and xwindows: 01:19:17 - Getting started with tokio: 01:23:13 - File management (mirage): 01:26:13 - Picking projects: 01:27:13 - More file management (mupdf): 01:29:48 - More on picking and maintaining projects: 01:31:37 - Keyboard switches (browns): 01:37:31 - Writing documents (neovim + latex): 01:37:58 - Vim plugins and config: 01:42:58 - Borrowing, references, and lifetimes: 01:45:03 - Reading the standard library: 01:54:30 - Next stream! 01:56:54 Original live stream recording with chat history here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vCKr...
